Ladera Elementary School

It is a privilege to have the opportunity to serve the students at Ladera, and to facilitate an opportunity to for them to both excel in their academic work, and enjoy their time at school. These formative years are critical in fostering a life-long love of learning, and I am enthused about partnering with a skilled staff as we prepare our students for the future.

Naturally, in order for our students to be successful, a joint effort is required. In addition to school staff, students, parents and the community are all contributing members to student success - continuous communication and collaboration between all parties is critical. This partnership, along with our balanced program of literacy, mathematics, the fine arts and sciences, will provide a well-rounded foundation for our educational program.

We have adopted a theme for this school year taken from author Sam Parker’s work, “212° - the extra degree”. The premise of the book is simply this: that at 211°, water is hot. At 212°, water boils. With boiling water comes steam, and with steam, you can power a locomotive – just one extra degree can make all the difference. In keeping with this theme, we are asking everyone to heighten their effort in everything they do by “1 degree”.  To watch this powerful move clip, click HERE.

I feel fortunate to be joining a school community that is focused on powerful teaching, learning and has high standards and expectations. In addition, providing social-emotional support and growth opportunities for students will be essential to our success.

With my open door policy, I think you will find me to be a caring, energetic, hard-working partner. I look forward to earning your trust and support on our quest for continued excellence at Ladera, in our 10th anniversary year.

Sincerely,

Derek Pinto, Principal
