1st and 2nd Grade

Ladera students and families,

Welcome to the 2011 – 2012 school year.  I am looking forward to reconnecting with our Ladera students and families from previous years along with meeting and getting to know new students and their families.  It has been my pleasure to have taught at Ladera since its opening in 2001.  Before Ladera, I taught at Tustin Ranch and substituted throughout the Tustin district.  My teaching career began in the East Whittier District.  This year I will be in my 18th year of teaching.  I have taught 4th, 3rd, 2nd, and 1st grades as well as combination classes of 2/3, 1/2, and a non-graded primary 1-3.  I received my Bachelor’s Degree and preliminary teaching credential through Whittier College.  After taking a “break” to be a “kindergarten mommy” (it turned into a 20+ year break) I chose to return to teaching.  I met the then current credentialing requirements through courses at National University and Whittier College.  My Masters Degree in curriculum and instruction was earned through Concordia University.

I have been married to my husband, Joe, since graduating from college. Following a career in the printing industry, he became a realtor with Seven Gables. Our eldest son, Michael, is married, a father to 2 sons, teaches High School English in San Clemente and lives in Oceanside. His wife is a full-time student working towards a teaching credential.  Our second son, Jason, is married, a father to 2 daughters, works in the printing industry, his wife teaches, and they live in Montana.  Stephanie is our youngest.  She is an equestrian, works full-time, and continues to pursue her college degree.

I have dabbled in numerous activities through the years including sewing, tole painting, cake decorating, volunteering for CHOC and local schools. I love spending time with family and friends and sharing some of my favorite leisure endeavors including reading, movies, tea, traveling, shopping, walking, creating, and teaching…yes, teaching is my job, but it is also one of my favorite activities.

I am thrilled to be part of the Ladera family and am looking forward to an awesome year!
