DISTRICT STANDARDS

Standards Based Education

The State of California has begun the implementation of a Standards Based Education system. The State Board of Education has adopted Content Standards in reading/language arts, mathematics, history/social science, science, and technology.

In California, Standards Based Education refers to the concept of identifying by specific grade levels and content areas, what students should know and what students should be able to do. In general, there are content standards that apply to a specific discipline such as mathematics and curriculum standards that are the goals of classroom instruction.

The Tustin Unified School District Board of Education approved standards in...

  • Reading/Language Arts and Mathematics - June 1998

  • History/Social Science and Science - June 1999

  • Technology - February 1998

The standards state in clear and unambiguous language the content which should be mastered by all students in Tustin schools. These standards provide teachers, students, parents, and the community with absolute clarity when evaluating programs and individual student achievement
